Refereeing Gaelic Football

The Gaelic Football and Hurling Association of SA is committed to providing referee's at the highest standard.
New referees first attend a full day interactive course to learn everything they need to know to become a Gaelic Football referee.

After the course, referees are mentored through to level 1 status which involves the Referee's Coordinator conducting a formal assessment of the referee during their first 4 to 5 games. After achieving Level 1 status, referees are assessed randomly to ensure they are maintaining a high standard.

In South Australia, Level 1 Status Referees are paid $35 per game and have the potential to referee up to 3 games per week. Referees working towards Level 1 status are paid $30 per game.

The next referee's course will be held on November 28 2009 at St. Mary's Park. The course is free and is open to anyone wanting to become a referee, or just interested in gathering a better understand of the game. Remember, it is mandatory for each state league club to provide at least one umpire for the season.

For more information or to register your interest, please contact the State Referee's Coordinator, Michelle O'Brien, on e-mail info@gaelicfootballsa.com.au.
