St. Mary's Park is the home of Gaelic Games in South Australia. It is located 10km south-west of the centre of Adelaide on Laura Ave in St. Mary's (just off South Rd, near Mitsubishi).
In 2001, the GFHASA signed a 5 year lease for St. Mary's Park from the City of Mitcham. The lease ran from October to March each year, with the winter tenant being the Kenilworth Australian Rules Football Club. In 2006 the St Marys Park Sports Association Inc was formed between the Kenilworth Football Club and our organisation to manage the facility.
During 2001, the GFHASA, with assistance from the GAA in Ireland, City of Mitcham, and Government of South Australia, funded a $40,000 upgrade of the flood lights at St. Mary's Park to enable a full size Gaelic Football pitch to be fully lit for night Gaelic Football matches. The upgrade was completed in September 2001, and the ground was officially opened in October 2001 by Sean McCague, GAA President, during a visit to the ground by the Irish International Rules team.
The ground hosted the first Gaelic Football competitions starting in October 2001. From 2001 to 2002, 162 games were played at the ground on three nights per week. Currently, close to 200 games are played during the summer over 4 nights per week.
In 2003 and 2004 further upgrading of the lights took place, including building a 6th light tower and the addition of an extra light to all 6 towers. Further plans for lighting upgrades are planned in the future.
A concept plan has been developed for a major redevelopment of the clubroom and changeroom facilities. It includes brand new clubrooms with seating for over 150 people and windows overlooking the field, and doubling the number of changerooms from two to four. It is hoped that this development will commence in 2009.
